Rhian Ramos' camp files protection order vs. Mo Twister

MANILA, Philippines – The camp of young actress Rhian Ramos applied for a temporary and permanent protection order against her ex-boyfriend, Mo Twister, before the Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court (RTC) on Dec. 6.

The protection order, as reported on GMA-7’s “Unang Hirit” on Dec. 7, was filed to put a stop to the "verbal, emotional, and psychological abuse" that Mo has allegedly inflicted upon Rhian and her family.

The petition will be raffled on Dec. 12 to determine the sala that will attend to the case, the report added.

“Ira-raffle ito pero assigned na sa family court,” said Rene Pagunsan, Clerk III of the Muntinlupa RTC, in an interview aired also on “Unang Hirit.”

On Dec. 5, an emotional Rhian gave a terse yet profound statement on the scandal involving her and Mo, which apparently reached its peak when the latter’s July 2010 video diary proliferated online. In the video, a tearful Mo claimed “we're gonna get rid [of] our baby” in Singapore.

Amid all the private and sensitive information that got publicized, Rhian said that “more than what the people have seen, I’ve been hurt over a longer period of time unnecessarily, and I think… undeserved.”

It seems, however, that more will be heard from Rhian in the coming days as she hinted in this tweet on Dec. 6:

“to answer all the questions, i'm sorry that i have not been able to speak on the topic you'd like me to speak on. i have been advised not to make any comments on those stories but today i've just received the go signal to air my side. thank you to the supporters and to the thinkers. thank you to those who have waited for my side in this and have noticed the errors in the events and statement that have preceded.”

Notwithstanding what may well be the biggest storm in her career so far, it's work as usual for the 21-year-old Rhian. As posted on PEP Scoopbox on Tuesday, the Kapuso TV host-actress is taping for her reunion series with Dingdong Dantes, “My Beloved.”

Although Mo has not yet commented on Rhian’s latest move, the TV and radio host continues to address the controversy through his online accounts.

Mo even had a heated exchange with a few netizens on Twitter who apparently castigated him.

One of his tweets on Dec. 6 read, “@xtrasweetwifeyx the difference between you and me dear? Your loved ones get a funeral. My 3 1/2 month old child was thrown in the trash.”

He likewise responded to another netizen, saying, “@Mistacey you can call me loser and il agree w/ you. There was been no denial. I was in that room when one second your child has a heartbeat and the next second it's sucked out by tools and a vacuum. I'm a loser? Yes, I've lost something that I wish you won't ever have to endure.”

Meanwhile, in his Tumblr page, Mo posted also on Tuesday a quote by former US president Ronald Reagan: “I noticed that everybody that is for abortion has already been born.”

Forming complete team Azkals’ biggest challenge

MANILA, Philippines—The jury is still out for German coach Michael Weiss close to a year into his reign as Philippine Azkals mentor.

Azkals manager Dan Palami, who hired Weiss last January as part of a financial assistant package with the German Football Association (DFB), said he could not completely evaluate Weiss’ performance because there are many factors that need to be considered.

Under the German coach, who has had stints with the Rwanda Under-17 team, the Azkals tallied five wins, five draws and five losses, including the 1-6 defeat to the Los Angeles Galaxy in an exhibition match last Saturday at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

Weiss also coached the Under-23 Azkals in the Southeast Asian Games, winning one game and losing four matches despite landing in what was perceived as a weaker group.

“We must understand that his performance is based on several factors,” said Palami. “It’s the fact that we still rely on foreign-based players and they arrive a day before the tournament and therefore it’s very difficult to achieve cohesion.”

Palami noted the Azkals’ achievements under Weiss, including the qualification to the AFC Challenge Cup for the first time, the improved second place finish in the Long Teng Cup and making the second round of the World Cup Qualifiers.

But Palami also acknowledged the “very disastrous result in the SEA Games.”

Palami said gathering the best team possible for a tournament remains the biggest challenge for the Azkals.

“We can hold off strong competition when we have a complete lineup,” said Palami. “The biggest challenge is still bringing the best team together.”

“There are alot of variables. We have to compartmentalize the problems. If we are able to do this, then we will be able to assess his (Weiss) performance,” said Palami.

The Azkals are in for a tough time in the March 9-13 Challenge Cup where they have been grouped with North Korea, Tajikistan and India. But Palami said there’s a good chance that the Azkals will have the likes of Stephan Schrock, Dennis Cagara, Jerry Lucena, Paul Mulders and Neil Etheridge for the tournament.

Palami also said Juan Luis Guirado, the brother of Azkals striker Angel Guirado, will be available for the Challenge Cup as well as the two training camps in preparation for the tournament.

“I think there’s a good chance and we can haggle with the clubs (to release them) because the players will only miss one game,” said Palami.

Floyd fight almost done deal - Manny

MANILA, Philippines - WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao said the other day his much-awaited showdown with WBC titlist Floyd Mayweather Jr. is 80 to 90 percent sure to take place on May 5 next year and only a few more details are being ironed out before contracts are finalized.

Neither the venue nor the purses was disclosed by Pacquiao who said it was a blessing in disguise that his recent win over Juan Manuel Marquez was close because Mayweather probably wouldn’t have agreed to face him if the fight was one-sided in his favor.

Pacquiao said a sharing of the fight revenues was under discussion but implied a 50-50 split. Mayweather was the world’s No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter until he quit the ring and was succeeded by Pacquiao. Mayweather has since returned to action and is trying to reclaim the prestigious honor. Both are welterweight champions with Pacquiao recognized by the WBO and Mayweather by the WBC, making their duel a unification match.

Pacquiao broke the news during a dinner he hosted for Filipino print journalists at the Harbour View Restaurant, Luneta, last Monday. He even checked the 2012 calendar on his phone to confirm if May 5 – the Cinco de Mayo holiday in Mexico – fell on a Saturday. The date conveniently is on a Saturday so it will be shown live in Manila on Sunday morning. The fight will likely be staged in Las Vegas.

As for Mayweather’s demand for Olympic-style drug testing, Pacquiao said it was no longer an issue. The fighters will agree to drug-testing procedures stipulated by the governing state athletic commission.

Pacquiao said he won’t back down from fighting anybody “if the price is right” and even mentioned the possibility of a rematch with WBC superwelterweight champion Miguel Cotto who stopped Mexico’s Antonio Margarito in New York City last weekend. Both Cotto and Margarito have lost to Pacquiao. Margarito suffered a fractured orbital bone in bowing to Pacquiao on points last year and his damaged eye was battered repeatedly by Cotto in their recent brawl. Margarito has been advised to seriously consider retirement.

It will be recalled that in 2008, Pacquiao won a close split decision over Marquez who insisted he was robbed. Pacquiao went on to beat David Diaz, Oscar de la Hoya, Ricky Hatton, Cotto, Joshua Clottey, Margarito, Sugar Shane Mosley and Marquez in that order to solidify his status as the world’s No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter. The same pattern is expected from Pacquiao coming off another tight win over Marquez. Experts predict he will bounce back with a bang.

WBO flyweight champion Brian Viloria’s chief second Ruben Gomez, who was Pacquiao’s cutman in his early US fights, said Mayweather is hard to hit but predicted the Filipino to win. “Mayweather isn’t heavy-handed,” said Gomez. “He uses his shoulder to limit what his opponent can hit. He’s a counterpuncher like Marquez but I think Manny can break down his style with his speed and power.”

GMA to media: Don't follow me

MANILA, Philippines — The camp of former President and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo Wednesday appealed to media not to follow her security convoy when she’s transferred from St. Luke’s Medical Center in Taguig to her detention cell at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) in Quezon City on Friday.

Elena Bautista Horn, spokeswoman of Mrs. Arroyo, also said she has requested the Philippine National Police (PNP) for strict security to ensure the smooth transfer to VMMC.

“It was the police that told us that there would only be one coaster from us that will be part of the convoy,” Horn said.

Lawyer Ferdinand Topacio, part of the legal team of the Arroyos, said allowing media vehicles to follow the security convoy could lead to “security risks” during the transfer of Mrs. Arroyo to VMMC on Friday.

Topacio said their camp has already received the schedule and security plans of the PNP in transferring Mrs. Arroyo to VMMC.

Topacio advised the media to instead wait for the security convoy to arrive at the VMMC.

Topacio also said the Arroyo camp will request the Philippine National Police (PNP) not to handcuff the former President during her transfer to Veterans.

He said that there is no need for the police to handcuff Mrs. Arroyo as she has no intention of escaping.

“I don’t think they (police) will allow a former President to suffer that indignity,” Topacio said.

“There’s no need for that scenario. I don’t think that they (Philippine National Police) would do that. Hindi naman malupit ang ating kapulisan,” he added.

Meanwhile, the PNP will likely forego the use of helicopter in transferring Mrs. Arroyo to the VMMC.

Chief Supt. Agrimero Cruz, Jr., PNP spokesman, said all their security preparations are now focused on the use of a vehicle, which will be backed up by police escorts and policemen along the route from St. Luke’s to the VMMC on Friday.

“Most likely, we will not use a helicopter. We have already prepared security coverage and we will be ready on Friday,” said Cruz.

Ironically, among the reliable helicopters of the PNP are the three controversial Raven choppers, two of them were reportedly second-hand and previously owned by the Arroyos but bought by the PNP in 2009 as brand new.

But Cruz would not disclose the exact number of policemen and vehicles that will be involved, saying all that he could say is that they will have enough forces to ensure the safety of the former President.

He said that from the point of origin at the St. Luke’s in Taguig City to the VMMC in Quezon City, there will be enough policemen that will be deployed, even along the convoy route.

“We have prepared for this and our security preparations will cover even worse-case scenarios,” said Director General Nicanor Bartolome, PNP chief for his part.

Bartolome said part of the preparations is the handling of the protesters who are expected to hold rallies on Friday either at the St. Luke’s or at the VMMC.

“We always expect people holding rallies but we have CDM (Civil Disturbance Management) contingent that will be assigned near the gates of the VMMC,” said Bartolome.

He said they are even coordinating with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) for possible troop augmentation on Friday.

AFP spokesman Col. Arnulfo Marcelo Burgos Jr. said the military is ready to assist the PNP.

The military also said it has not monitored any threat to the life of the former Commander-in-Chief.

Cruz said that most likely scenario on Friday is that the vehicle of the former President will be backed up by less than 10 vehicles and that the roads where the convoy would pass will also be secured.

There would be some limitations on media coverage but Cruz said they will be allowed to tail the convoy up to the VMMC.

“But the media will not be allowed to go in the area which we have already secured at the VMMC. But from what I know, there will be a designated area where press briefing will be held after the transfer,” said Cruz.

Aside from the deployment of enough policemen to secure the VMMC, Cruz said they also expect that closed-circuit television (CCTV) will also be installed in key areas at the VMMC.
